Broken Car and Sort Of Self Fixing Body With A Little Luck

10 February 2009 1:28 pm

This weekend got off to a fine start. I took James for a walk whilst bf and Matthew put together the train set. I enjoyed the little time to myself as I went and bought a few items for lunch.

The train set amused Matthew so we went to get him another train. He had some birthday money left so he got himself a Virgin engine. It wasn't cheap but it was what he wanted and has pleased him ever since.

Saturday evening, bf went to see a friend. Or at least he would have done if he'd made it out of our road. The car decided to play up. In fact, the clutch pedal snapped. We've had a lot of freezing temperatures since the snow and we think it may have caused the plastic to swell and freeze and in turn snap.

So we spent the entire day in on Sunday and the car got fixed yesterday. Thank God it was this Saturday gone and wasn't this one coming as we will be around 180 miles away from home! The car has undergone a full health check too and is looking very good indeed. It was still a cost we could have done without.

Yesterday I took James to be weighed and thankfully, he is now slowing down in weight gain. He put on 1lb exactly in 3 weeks instead of the normal 2 weeks. He's now 14 weeks weighing 14lb and a right little weight. This little boy really is growing fast. It is putting a strain on my back though if I hold on to him for too long.

After a few weeks of worry and a few pains here and there I have got to the root of my stomach problem. IBS. I got to my GP this morning and I now have to monitor what I eat to control it. I've been eating healthier since I joined Weight Watchers but there is something in my diet that is obviously disagreeing with me. It could be that I am eating more potatoes. I normally try to avoid "heavy carbs".

I did have just about every symptom going as I've looked it up since I've got home from the doctors surgery.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome symptoms can be confined to three categories. All of which have many symptoms of their own and vary from person to person.

* Those with abdominal pain or discomfort, and the other symptoms are mainly bloating and constipation.

* Those with abdominal pain or discomfort, and the other symptoms are mainly urgency to get to the toilet and diarrhoea.

* Those who alternate between constipation and diarrhoea.

Other symptoms sometimes occur and include: nausea (feeling sick), headache, belching, poor appetite, tiredness, backache, muscle pains, feeling quickly 'full' after eating, heartburn, and bladder symptoms (an associated 'irritable bladder').

Of course this all makes sense now and one of the most common times for IBS to begin in women is during or after a bodily change. It is VERY common to develop IBS in early pregnancy or in the early months following childbirth.

So that's my position covered and I am now another medical statistic. Woohoo.

I do feel better having had a chat and knowing that there's ways I can possibly control it.

My nan has had it for years and I wondered if I did have it but it's a relief knowing that I have an answer at last.
