Interview Number 2

04 February 2009 11:20 am

This is my second one, but I like doing these so here's the plan:

The Interview #2 (Thanks to Leebeenz)

Here's how it works:
1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
2. I will respond by e-mailing you 5 questions.
3. You update your blog with the answers to the questions.
4. You include this explanation and an offer to interview others.
5. When you receive the comment from another, you will send them 5 questions.

1) I know that you were thinking about moving to a bigger place, now that little James is here. Apart from the obvious, walls, door, number of rooms etc, what are the absolute essentials you need in a new place? (For example, I couldn’t live in a house without a washing line outside.) What are your deal-breakers?

Firstly, I am part of a housing association so it's not a case of what we are looking for but what we are given. When I was with my ex, we were given this house by the local housing authority as we were on low wages. My mums house was overcrowded and housing 2 families so we had to apply for council housing and although I love the house it would be nice for somewhere bigger for the kids to grow up in. And on a second point it would be good to make a fresh start and leave all the memories of the failed marriage and all it bought behind. We're a new little unit now and I think a new house would just make everything that little more perfect. However, I know exactly what you mean. I need storage space in the kitchen, a cupboard under the stairs would be perfect and a larger hall to accomodate my travel system would be a significant improvement. First of all, it's about location though and a decent sized garden is essential with 2 boys. We need room for the footballs and hope they don't smash too many windows. I want something that is fairly close to facilities too so we can keep up with toddler groups. Still, saying that, if I learn to drive this year, that's less of an issue.

2) If you could travel back in time, to any point in history, where would you go and why?

I am going to sound really grim and morbid but I've written about one of my favourite pieces of British history here before.

I find the 1880's in London fascinating and would like to experience the dark dire streets. The fear and general uneasiness of Jack The Ripper in London. I love the mystery that still surrounds it and I think it's best that we never knew who did it in the end. It's the intrigue of the case and the many conspiracy theories that keeps the story alive and exciting.

Of course, I would not want to have been a prostitute in those times as it was those who were killed by the ripper but I would love to experience Victorian life (preferably a rich one in a big house rather than in the slums but I'd settle for either.)

I am in my element at the moment as ITV is currently running a series that is based on copycat killings of the Jack the Ripper story so I am looking forward to Monday night tv and that has partially made this question so easy to answer. Not a bit of hesitation.

3) What family traditions from your childhood do you want to pass onto your boys? And have you started any new ones?

I was not really bought up with many traditions although bf was. One of them is a christmas treasure hunt which the boys will be participating in this christmas as we are going there this year. One thing I did do as a kid that I enjoyed was holidaying with my grandparents for a week each summer. Me and my brother would go away to a caravan park and it was always great fun. It always gave our parents a break too. This is one tradition I would like to pass on. :)

4) Cliché question I know, but if you could invite any 5 people in the world (dead or alive) to a dinner party, who would you invite and why?

1. Barack Obama: He is quite the man of 2009 isn't he. I think it would be a great experience and it's nice to see a politician that does seem quite sincere. He seems rather down to earth and realistic in his views so I am looking forward to seeing how he gets on. (VERY big coming from a girl who would like to see Arnie go from governer of California to President)

2. Charlotte Church: I never used to think that much of her but I like the way she seems to put her kids first a bit more than many other celebs. She's young, funny and we have a lot in common. We could have good mumsy chats.

3. Daniel Ratcliffe: He may feel like a little brother as we've seen him grow up in the last few years, but who doesn't want Harry Potter round their house? Great talking point for years to come and will amaze Matthew.

4. David Tennant: My kids will be involved in this party too and I'd have to have the young man's idol here. If we're having Harry Potter, we also need Doctor Who. Got to think of the kids. He can answer all the questions about the things I never under understood and James will have to have Barney singing songs at the end of the table.

5. Robin Hood: He was quite a dude wasn't he. Robbed from the rich to give to the poor. Pissed off the Sheriff who wanted far too much in the way of taxes. We need more of these people in modern day society. :) Then if the dinner party falls flat, he could teach us how to shoot arrows and teach us archery in the garden as a party trick.

5) If you could visit any place in the world, all expenses paid, where would you go?

The Bahamas, Thailand, Hawaii, Mauritius, Mexico. Lots of blue sky, bright sunshine, golden sand and deep bluey green sea. No kids, just a relaxing break for bf and myself. I think we'd deserve it. :) I'd also like to see some American Cities. Chicago, San Francisco (I want to visit and do a tour of Alcatraz!!!! but I think they don't do that anymore) and New York. I like cities and would love to see Rome, Venice, Madrid, Barcelona and Paris - tied in with a trip to EuroDisney for the kids - just to say I've been. It will be a few more years or a massive lottery win before we can realistically think of things like that though.
